Architectural Communications Arch1142

The different subjects offfered by the course is something which I really enjoyed because it allowed us to chose the subjects that we most enjoyed. But what I felt that didn't work was that their was not enough time to do all of the ones we wanted. Especially since the subjects such as Architectural Drawing filled up almost instantly. But what makes this structure good is how people can take skills they learnt from one subject and apply them to their next one. Not only that but we get to see other peoples combinations of skills so there is alot of variety within the work.
This subject is fun and relaxing becuase we are given alot more freedom to express ourselves, which is a welcomed change of pace.

Material Modeling

Material Modeling was the first workshop I chose to do because I thought it would help me with my model making in my design course. It was useful as the tutors went through some modeling techniques. I felt that in design studio they expected us to know how to make good models without any instructions. But this workshop started with the basics which I found helpful.

Fluid Thoughts To Actions

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
In fluid thoughts we used charcoal extensively, this is something I usually don't use. I found that the charcoal allowed you to easily express things such as movement and tone. The workshop pushed the idea that images are more than static and can embody fluidity. This was a foreign concept to me so I had difficulty exploring this, but as the studios went on I felt more confident to explore these. Through the use of techniques such as transparency and blending fluidity can be expressed in drawings. But what I found most interesting was the group work. Everyone produced very different drawings so it involved some creativity to compile them all into one picture. This aspect of group work was the most important becuase in architecture group work is needed to coordinate designs.
Architecture In Motion
Architecture in Motion introduced the idea that we could blend different mediums such as drawings, models and photos to create something that is greater than its parts. I felt that there was not enough time because as you make some progress you develop more ideas that you want to incorporate and this process continues. So in the end you end up with alot of ideas with no real idea of how to sequence them.
What would make this more exciting is perhaps making a group film becuase after fluid thoughts I think that group work leads to unexpected results and the sharing of ideas would lead to a better film.
